Three $1,000 scholarships were awarded to hospital employees from the Wenatchee Valley Street Rod organization in 2009.  The three Street Rod Scholarships went to Secrett Adamek, Jan Elliston and Aimee Gence.  The Street Rod group is a guild of Central Washington Hospital.

Every year the Wenatchee Valley Street Road organization works diligently to bring us the Apple Run Car Show which raises funds for scholarships for Central Washington Hospital employees.  Proceeds from their annual car show provide funds for employees furthering their education in healthcare related fields.  Employees receive grants to assist with their enrollment in work-related areas or for certification exam fees.  Scholarships are awarded annually each spring.

2009 - Jean Wood Nursing Scholarship Awarded

Barbara LeRoy was selected to receive the Jean Wood Nursing Scholarship for 2009.  The scholarship, established through a gift from the Jean Wood Estate in 2002, provides a full-cost scholarship to a nursing student covering tuition, books, and fees related to the nursing program at Wenatchee Valley College.

Jean Wood was a nurse for over 30 years at Rosewood and St. Anthony's hospital in Wenatchee.  Barbara LeRoy is in her second year of Wenatchee Valley College's nursing program.  She is a native of Chelan and together with her husband and son resides in East Wenatchee.

Costco Donates Three Cozy, Comfortable Recliners

recliner donation

Patient Family Member

Thanks to the generosity of Costco employees, patients receiving cancer treatment at Central Washington Hospital will rest in comfort.  The generous individuals from Costco donated three leather recliners to the Medical/Oncology Department during the month of December.

Shawn Wertman, Clinical Manager of the department had this to say, "We thank Costco for its generosity and its dedication to our community and the comfort of our patients and visitors.  In the future, we anticipate moving the recliners into our new spacious patient rooms once the hospital's five-story tower is built.  The new all private patient rooms will be large enough to accommodate these wonderful and very comfortable recliners."

Costco worked hard to make this donation happen and we certainly appreciate their community effort!
